Salmon Creek Falls is a stunning natural waterfall found on the Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway 1. Like most Big Sur waterfalls, the secluded 120-foot Salmon Creek Falls is just a quick and easy quarter mile round-trip hike from the highway. The Salmon Creek Falls Trail brings you up close and personal with the clear waters cascading down the Santa Lucia Mountains. This hike is free and welcomes visitors of all skill levels year-round. Dogs are also welcome but are required to be leashed while using the trail. You don’t want to miss this memorable outdoor experience. Stop by with the whole family as you make your way down California’s Central Coast.

Trailhead Location:

Cabrillo Highway (Highway One), Los Padres National Forest, Big Sur, CA 93920

Salmon Creek Trail is located on a large horseshoe bend along Highway One. Park at the trailhead just 3 miles north of Ragged Point Inn. To begin your hike, look for the mileage sign on the east side of the highway. When you reach a split in the trail, stay left to reach the waterfall. The right side of the split will lead you to a campground further up the mountain. From there, follow the trail (and your ears!) until you reach the falls. Upon arrival, you will find a rope hanging from a large boulder that can be used to cross the rock for an unobstructed view.

Safety Precautions:

Always take safety precautions when visiting waterfalls! Fast currents can be extremely dangerous and drowning can happen even in shallow water. Stay away from cliffs and loose rocks, and always bring a friend!
